String of Pearls
Description:
The String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus) is a unique and eye-catching trailing succulent known for its spherical, bead-like leaves that resemble a string of green pearls. Native to southwest Africa, this elegant plant is a popular choice for hanging baskets, shelves, and windowsills where its cascading vines can trail beautifully for several feet. Its quirky, sculptural foliage brings playful texture and modern charm to any indoor space. In ideal conditions, it may produce tiny, white, cinnamon-scented flowers, though its foliage is the main attraction.
Plant Care:
Light:
Thrives in bright, indirect light. It can handle a few hours of direct sunlight, especially in the morning or late afternoon, but harsh midday sun may scorch the leaves.
Water:
Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. As a true succulent, the String of Pearls is drought-tolerant and highly sensitive to overwatering, which can cause root rot.
Soil:
Requires a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Make sure the pot has adequate drainage holes to prevent water from sitting in the bottom.
Humidity:
Prefers low to average indoor humidity. It does not require misting and is well suited to dry environments.
Fertilizer:
Feed sparingly—once every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer.
Disclaimer:
Our plants are always supplied with a nursery pot. Please note that the size specifications refer to the height or trailing length of the plant including the pot. As you are purchasing a natural, living product, variations in size of a few centimeters can occur. Growth and appearance may also vary slightly depending on the season.
